How-to guide
Using TeachBot Studio
Everything you need to turn your content into accessible lessons and full Canvas courses.
1. Getting started
Create a free account to generate your first two lesson packages.
- Click Try it now on the homepage to open the Studio.
- Click Sign in and continue with Google or your email and password.
- Your free trial includes 2 full lesson packages. Upgrade to Pro anytime from the account menu.
2. Create a lesson package
- In the Studio, upload a PDF, Word document, PowerPoint, or text file — or paste your own text.
- Choose your audience: K-5, 6-8, 9-12, Undergraduate, Graduate, or Corporate training.
- Add a learning goal so the objectives and activities match what you want students to do.
- Set the number of slides (4–25) and quiz questions (3–15).
- Click Generate. In about a minute you'll see tabs for every output.
Tips
- Learning objectives always begin with one Bloom's Taxonomy verb and never use the word "understand".
- Every lesson is saved to your Library automatically.
3. Review each output
- Student bot — a tutor grounded in your content. Test it in the preview and choose whether it may use general knowledge beyond your materials (only you control this, not students).
- PowerPoint — pick a design theme (Modern, Editorial, Bold, or Minimal). Slides include images, alt text, proper slide titles, and speaker notes.
- Video — edit each scene's wording and visuals, choose a length from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and preview before exporting.
- Notes and Study guide — detailed lecture notes and a student-facing study guide.
- Assignments — choose Essay prompts, a Quiz, or Let's get creative for an authentic project matched to your audience.
4. Choose an AI voice
- Open the voice picker and press the play button next to any of the 10 voices (5 female, 5 male) to hear a preview.
- Select a voice. It's used for the student bot audio, PowerPoint voiceover, and video narration.
- Voiceovers are optional — turn narration on only when you want it.
5. Download your materials
- Click Download and pick only the files you need.
- PowerPoint (.pptx) — optionally with narrated voiceover on each slide (Pro).
- Video (.mp4) — always includes burned-in captions, plus a separate caption file (.vtt).
- Word document (.docx) — the full lesson in one editable file.
- Embed code for the student bot — paste it into your LMS page or course site.
Tips
- Run PowerPoint's Accessibility Checker — decorative shapes are already marked so only meaningful issues appear.
6. Build a full 8-module course (Pro)
Plan an entire course at once and import it into Canvas.
- Open Course builder from the Studio header.
- Enter a course title and audience. Optionally paste a syllabus or upload course material.
- Click Brainstorm module ideas to get 12 suggestions. Click + to add an idea to the next open module slot, or click Use the first 8 suggestions.
- Prefer your own plan? Type topics directly into the 8 module boxes — you can mix your own and suggested topics.
- Click Build all 8 modules. Each module is written one at a time; progress shows on the button.
- Review each module tab: overview, learning objectives, learning materials, discussion prompt, and assignment with rubric.
- Not happy with one module? Click Regenerate on that module only.
- Click Save to keep the course in your Library.
Tips
- Alignment is built in: every learning objective has its own rubric row labeled with its code (for example M3.2), and the assignment instructions ask for evidence of each objective.
- The discussion lists which objectives it supports.
7. Import your course into Canvas
- In the Course builder, click Download Canvas file (.imscc).
- In Canvas, open the course you want to fill (a blank or sandbox course is best for the first try).
- Go to Settings, then Import Course Content.
- For Content Type, choose Common Cartridge 1.x Package.
- Choose the .imscc file you downloaded, select All content, and click Import.
- When the import finishes, open Modules — you'll see 8 modules, each with an Overview page, Learning Materials page, Discussion, and Assignment.
Tips
- Review points, due dates, and publishing settings in Canvas before students see the course.
- The rubric appears inside each assignment's description. If you want Canvas's interactive rubric grading, add it from the assignment's Rubric button.
8. Your library
- Click Library in the Studio header to see every lesson and course you've created.
- Click a lesson to reopen it in the Studio, or a course to reopen it in the Course builder.
- Use the trash icon to delete anything you no longer need.
9. Plans and billing
- Free trial: 2 lesson packages.
- Pro: $19.99 per month or $199 per year for unlimited lessons, the course builder, narration, and all exports.
- Manage, switch, or cancel your plan anytime from the account menu → Billing.
10. Troubleshooting
- Nothing generated? Make sure you're signed in and your file is under 15MB.
- Scanned PDFs with no selectable text may produce thin results — paste the text instead.
- See an upgrade prompt? That feature is part of Pro, or you've used your 2 free lessons.
- Still stuck? Reach us on the Contact page.
